Why that gas subsidy should go
I think we all need to understand the Government's decision
to subsidise gasoline in the first place.
Ten or fifteen years ago, most of the
vehicles on the road were used to transport people,
goods and services (trucks, buses etc.) Subsidising
gasoline meant that goods and services were kept
affordable and people were able to travel to and
from work to provide these goods and services.
Now, a decade or more later, most of the vehicles
on the road are privately owned. Why should the
Government continue to subsidise gasoline when
most of that money benefits car owners? When an
individual decides to purchase a vehicle for private
use, he or she must be prepared to maintain it.
I support the decision to eliminate
or decrease the subsidy. Yes, our cost of living
will increase,
but we have to be able to manage our personal
resources eg. purchasing groceries and cooking
gas will always be cheaper than purchasing cooked
meals.
