UP to late yesterday (Friday) Atlantic LNG was assessing
losses caused by a gas leak on the Train 2 plant.
The
early morning natural gas leak caused a shutdown
at the Point Fortin facility for about six hours
from around 7.30 a.m. Workers were immediately evacuated.
No
one was injured, communications officer Billson
Hainsley said.
Hainsley
said the leak was detected on a two-inch pipeline
at the Train 2 facility, and "immediately upon
discovery, supply to the line was closed off'. Natural
gas is a naturally occurring non-toxic substance,
comprising mainly methane and ethane.
Hainsley
said that all personnel within the area were evacuated
according to safety procedures and the Incident
Response Team was deployed to manage and investigate
the incident.
Hainsley
said investigations confirmed that the impact of
the leak was contained on site and the release of
natural gas was brought under control.
Workers
were back on the job after lunch.
The
company is continuing to monitor the situation,
Hainsley said.
