Prime Minister Patrick Manning yesterday assured
the country that Government is not spending wildly,
but is busy harvesting and securing the wealth of
the nation.
The
media was taken offshore to the Constellation 1
exploration rig, where the Ibis Deep well is being
drilled. The Ibis Deep well is considered a landmark
as it is the deepest well to be attempted in this
country, projected at over 20,000 feet-or almost
four miles. It costs US$70 million and is thought
to have a 35 per cent chance of success.
"I
thought it was very important to give Trinidad and
Tobago an idea of what goes on out here," Manning
told the media after his tour of the rig. He added
that he has not been a rig for around 20 years,
since leaving his energy portfolio behind.
Manning
said that careful planning is being put into the
local energy industry and the nation has no need
to worry.
