T&T is considering exporting liquefied natural
gas (LNG) to Mexico from a planned fifth LNG train,
Energy Minister Lenny Saith said on Tuesday.
“Mexico
was not considered (as a potential buyer) with previous
plants,” Saith said at a joint Mexico City
press conference with Mexican counterpart Fernando
Canales Clariond. He said Mexico’s building
of the Altavista regasification plant had changed
that.
“The
final decision on a train will be some time next
year,” he added.
The
proposed Trinidad LNG train would have a capacity
of 800m cubic feet/day, and would be a joint venture
between the T&T government and private industry
partners, said Saith.
Mexico’s
Altavista plant could use 500m cubic feet/day of
gas, nearly 65 per cent of the proposed train’s
capacity.
Saith
planned to return to T&T with a draft memorandum
of understanding (MOU) outlining how Mexico would
buy LNG. Canales said that the MOU could be signed
within three months. (ICIS news)
