Four
out of five Powergen generating units at Pt Lisas
which tripped due to yesterday morning’s earthquake
were restored by noon, said its communications manager
Omar Khan.
“The other one should be back
up by 3 pm,” Khan said. “All employees
are working assiduously to ensure generating units
remain in service.”
He said outages took place as a
result of the loss of generating units.
“T&TEC will have to do
load shedding. At the Port-of-Spain power station,
the number four unit had tripped when the protective
devices operated,” Khan said. “All units
tripped because the protective devices operated.”
Khan said power was restored to
most of the affected areas.
“We’re keeping our fingers
crossed that aftershocks will not have an effect
on our generating machines,” Khan said.
He said he was also happy to report
there was no structural damage to its power plants
nor injuries to Powergen’s employees.
