Prime
Minister Patrick Manning leaves today for Washington,
where he will address an Organisation of American
States meeting and also hold talks with the US Secretary
for Energy and State Department officials.
A Whitehall statement yesterday
confirmed that Manning will be out of T&T until
Thursday.
Minister of Energy Dr Lenny Saith
will act as Prime Minister in Manning’s absence.
During his trip this week, Manning
will address a special protocolary session of the
permanent council of the OAS, from 10 am tomorrow.
Prior to this, Manning will meet
with the Secretary General of the OAS, Jose Insulza.
Manning will also hold special discussions
with US Secretary for Energy Samuel Bodman and Assistant
Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Thomas
Shannon.
Tomorrow evening, Manning will deliver
the keynote address at the fourth annual Congressional
dinner of the Caribbean community in Washington
DC.
Primary mission of the Congressional
Caribbean Caucus of the US House of Representatives
is to strengthen relations with regional states
by finding an on-going forum for continuous dialogue
between the US Congress and the Caribbean’s
political leadership.
Tomorrow’s dinner is being
hosted by the Inter-American Economic Council, which
promotes dialogue on current and future economic
strategies in the hemisphere among senior government
officials, private sector executives and academic.
Manning
last visited Washington in July, when he met with
US Vice-President Dick Cheney and other officials
on regional security matters. (GA)
