Businessmen must prepare for investment
since opportunities “the likes of which we
have never been seen before” are ahead, Prime
Minister Patrick Manning said on Sunday.
Addressing the PNM’s annual
convention, he also said the Government was not
discounting the possibility of future LNG trains.
“But we shall embark on this
only after domestic demands for natural gas are
satisfied,” he added.
He outlined a long list of projects,
mainly in the energy-related sector, representing
more than US$8 billion in direct foreign investment
in T&T.
“These investments will revolutionise
the economy and trigger a whole new wave of manufacturing
activity,” Manning said. (See below).
“It is more business opportunities,
more jobs, more wealth for T&T…so our
business community must get ready. We’re pleased
our leading local conglomerates are already moving
into the energy sector. We want others to follow
to take advantage of the opportunities being created
in T&T.
“So entrepreneurs old and
new, get ready for tremendous new manufacturing
opportunities and for the tremendous rise in services,
transportation and other sectors to be produced
by the interlinkages between new industries and
the rest of the economy—you are going to see
business opportunities like you have never seen
before.”
He added: “Young people, make
the best use of your present chance to become skilled
and educated professionals…be prepared to
take advantage of the fantastic job opportunities
that will certainly be generated by the investments
I’ve mentioned.”
