THE WORLD hasn't seen peak oil yet, chairman of
the Eastern Caribbean Gas Pipeline Company, Trevor
Boopsingh said yesterday.
Boopsingh
was also chairman of the Vision 2020 energy committee.
Speaking
at the first BHP Billiton Trinidad and Tobago lecture
series at its Invaders Bay, Port of Spain, headquarters,
Boopsingh opined that the scare tactics employed
by some, warning of the imminent drop off in oil
supplies, have become excessively exaggerated, both
here and abroad.
"One
way to make money is to write a popular book - say
things that are popular. Colin Campbell came up
with the peak oil theory... he prognosticated that
by 2006 we would enter into a permanent decline.
"Peak
will occur at some point in time. I would put my
money comfortably that it won't happen in 2006,
it'll happen some time in the future..."
