GOODWORKS International, the US consultancy firm
which helped set up the oil deal between Jamaica
and Nigeria, said it has had no relationship with
Trafigura Beheer, the firm that sells the Nigerian-supplied
crude for Jamaica on the international market.
The
US company, which is owned by former Atlanta Governor
Andrew Young, will issue a statement today, denying
it has anything to do with Trafigura, now at the
centre of a controversy that brought down Colin
Campbell, the government minister and general secretary
of the ruling People's National Party (PNP).
"We
will issue a statement denying any relationship
with Trafigura, either through the Petroleum Corporation
of Jamaica or any other entity," Austin Cooper,
Goodworks International spokesman, told the Observer
last night.
Campbell
lost his job after it emerged that Trafigura had
paid $31 million into a party-linked account, which
the Dutch oil trader later said was a commercial
payment.
The
Portia Simpson Miller administration's image has
taken a severe beating from the ensuing scandal,
according to the latest Stone Polls being run in
the Observer.
