New
tank wagons to increase the frequency of fuel supply
to service stations is one of five primary objectives
of National Petroleum (NP) said its CEO Richard
Callender.
The
supply of 20 new tank wagons in the last two months
is to achieve the goal of “zero stock out,”
Callender said yesterday.
“All
stations should always have fuel. We are a good
way off from achieving that. We want to achieve
that by April next year,” Callender said.
The
NP boss said inquiries have been sent out internationally
for up to eight larger-than-normal tank wagons to
especially improve the supply of fuel to south Trinidad.
“Service
in the deep south will be improved in the coming
months by what we are doing,” Callender said.
He
said NP has also had “a little chat”
with some of its contractors about having a minimum
number of vehicles on the road, a figure of which
they were “falling short.”
Callender
identified four other primary objectives NP has
for the short-term:
improve
operational efficiencies
modernise
its operations
increase
customer satisfaction
and,
increase awareness of health and safety issues (which
includes educating the public).
Regarding
the tendering for a long-term contract to transport
fuel from Point-a-Pierre to Sea Lots, Callender
said the service has been provided on a month-to-month
basis by three contractors, but a longer-term contract
might be arranged at better prices.
“By
the end of December, we would be in a position to
go out for longer term at better prices. It would
be more cost effective,” Callender said.
