THE NATIONAL Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago
(NGC) has recently signed three new gas purchase
contracts to begin in the 2009/2010, in time to
meet the natural gas supply of new industrial plants
which are expected to commence operations at that
time.
The
contracts have been signed with three upstream producers-BHP
Billiton Consortium, EOG Resources and BG/Chevron-for
the supply of 550 MMscf/d of natural gas.
"This
incremental gas supply will grow NGC's portfolio
of gas supplies to exceed 2.1 Bcf by 2010,"
the company said yesterday.
NGC
added that these agreements, which will soon be
converted to long term gas supply contracts between
NGC and the respective producers, are a major step
forward in meeting the gas supply requirements for
the next wave of petrochemicals, metals and other
industrial plants scheduled to come on stream in
the 2009/2010.
"The
process of negotiating for incremental natural gas
supplies and new consumers is an ongoing one at
NGC, as it continues with its mandate to expand
and deepen an already vibrant natural gas based
economy," the company said.
