Employees of Petrotrin Marine Operation (Trinmar)
returned to work yesterday following their work
stoppage on Monday.
Some
500 employees walked off their jobs to protest what
they claimed were substandard safety measures in
the workplace.
However,
the staff returned to work after being assured by
the company that their concerns would be addressed.
The
Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) branch president
at Trinmar Ernesto Kesar said several platforms
were in a state of disrepair. He charged there had
been more than 30 accidents at Trinmar’s offshore
facilities since October last year and the union
was afraid the next accident would be a fatal one.
Kesar
said, “We will not allow this to happen, Petrotrin
must address these concerns before we resume our
duties.”
