University of T&T chairman Professor Ken
Julien yesterday called for more discussion
on energy topics, including the proposal for
a single national energy company, at the opening
of the UTT Media Energy Training Programme.
“It’s an issue that needs serious
airing and discussion, but you should do so on
the basis of information,” Julien told journalists
attending the programme. He also said T&T needs
to study its carbon emissions and standards that
could be imposed by developed countries in the
future.
The
media energy training programme is being sponsored
by bpTT and is being hosted this month at UTT’s
campus at the corner of Pasea Main Rd and the Churchill
Roosevelt Highway, Tunapuna.
It was held for the first time last year and includes
training in journalism basics, the energy industry
and how it relates to the national economy. It
will run until April 23.
Over 15 journalists will gain an insight into
the energy sector over the next two weeks. Seven
journalists completed the course in 2006. As with
last year, the course will be facilitated by experts
from the energy field with a range of backgrounds,
from geosciences to economics. It has been improved
based on feedback from the participants.
