Prime Minister Patrick Manning will not be travelling
to Margarita for the energy summit of heads of
state.
A release from the Prime Minister's office on
Monday, informed that Foreign Affairs Minister
Arnold Piggott had received a diplomatic note from
his Venezuelan counterpart, indicating that the
Venezuelan authorities were unable to successfully
finalise the appropriate arraignments.
The release stated that the concurrence of all
the members of the group, which is coordinated
by the secretariat, could not be organised in time,
resulting in the inability of Trinidad and Tobago
to attend.
"As a result, Prime Minister Patrick Manning
would not be travelling to Margarita as was previously
announced last Thursday by Minister of Foreign
Affairs Senator the Honourable Arnold Piggott," stated
the release.
The statement added that in the meantime, the
technical teams appointed from Port of Spain and
Caracas are continuing their work in finalising
the terms of the memorandum of understanding in
preparation for the impending visit to Trinidad
and Tobago by President Hugo Chavez for the signing
ceremony.
