Anti-smelter activist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh on Friday
expressed dissatisfaction with the Environmental
Management Authority (EMA) claiming it had not
received adequate information on how Alutrint would
dispose of spent pot lining from the aluminium
smelter plant it intends to build in Trinidad & Tobago.
Kublalsingh said the EMA only received a letter
of intent from Alutrint for the disposal of the
spent pot lining.
Kublalsingh
made the statements as he held a fasting vigil
at the EMA’s Elizabeth Street, Woodbrook
headquarters.
He said the spent pot lining contained cyanide
and if not properly disposed of could, lead to
serious health risks.
On
Thursday, he was lifted bodily out of the EMA’s
office by police officers and put to sit on a sidewalk.
This happened after he refused to leave the offices
where he had gone to seek answers on the disposal
of the spent lining from the EMA. He had vowed
to fast until he received a reply.
