The
Lloyd Best Institute of the West Indies (LBIWI)
is pleased to announce the continuation of its
monthly seminar series "Seminar for Professionals".
Following the passing of its Director, Dr Lloyd Best in March, there was a
short break in the hosting of these seminars. This month's seminar will be
held on Wednesday 16th May, 2007 at 5.00 p.m. at The Normandie, Gallery 1 & 2,
10 Nook Avenue, St Ann's, Port of Spain.
Gregory
McGuire, Research Fellow, Lloyd Best Institute
of the West Indies and lecturer
in Energy Economics
at UWI, will speak on the subject "Trinidad-Jamaica
LNG dispute". The seminar seeks to bring some
insight into the dispute that flared up after Prime
Minister Patrick Manning informed his Jamaican
counterpart earlier this year that Trinidad was
unable to honour an MOU in which a commitment was
made to provide a supply of LNG to Jamaica in 2009.
Manning's withdrawal has since led Jamaica to secure
a deal with Caracas. This presentation will explore
Caribbean energy problems and possibilities of
a gas solution, LNG/Petroleum fuel pricing and
the CSME, Trinidad gas reserves situation and Train
X, and prospects for a Caracas Solution.
