Ricardo Felix had postponed his marriage to Ann
Bernard for several months because he wanted a
grand wedding, so that they would have the best
memories of the occasion.
"The wedding was planned for December and
preparations were already on the way when I got
the sad news," Bernard said yesterday.
Two other workers on the platform received serious
injuries.
Felix, 39, of Siparia, died at the Point Fortin
Area Hospital while being treated.
Richard Phillip, 23, of BP Road, Vance River,
La Brea, received injuries to his left arm and
legs, and Kirk Peters, 34, also of La Brea, suffered
injuries to his chest and legs. They are both now
patients at the San Fernando General Hospital.
The three employees of Trinjet Services Limited
were working on Trinmar Platform 21, in the Soldado
Field, when a 12-inch pipeline ruptured and spewed
gas during refurbishment work on the platform.
There was an explosion.
State-owned Petrotrin, parent company to Trinmar,
said the incident occurred at 11.06 a.m. It said
that arrangements should have been put in place
for counselling for the affected families.
An investigation has already started to determine
the cause of the accident.
The Oilfields Workers Trade Union has expressed
concern over the incident.
Ancel
Roget, the union's vice president with special
responsibilities for Trinmar's operations, said: "The
situation is becoming unbearable, since these accidents
are causing untold family problems."
There have been a number of industrial accidents
this year, both on land and offshore.
