Legal Secretary and HSE Manager gone too
- Painful experience after 28 years of service.
Acting President of the Point Lisas Industrial
Port Development Company Ltd Captain Rawle Baddaloo
has been relieved of his position with immediate
effect.
It
is understood that Baddaloo, along with the company’s
Legal Secretary Saistra Ali and the HSE Manager
Deenesh Persad were given their
walking papers yesterday afternoon following a
meeting of the Plipdeco Board headed by its Chairman
Dr Rolph Balgobin.
Other members of the Board are Raffique Shah,
Anthony Hosang, Anthony Jordan, Patrick Kelly,
Charles Percy, Rikhi Rampersad and Lloyd Walters.
Contacted
yesterday evening, Baddaloo confirmed that he
was in the process of packing “boxes
galore” in preparation for his departure.
However, he affirmed, it was not done under duress.
In a short telephone interview, Baddaloo said
he was not fired.
He said he had resigned from the company, with
effect August 1, 2007.
Baddaloo
said he had given the company one month’s
notice. He said reasons for his action will be
given at another time as he was a bit emotional
at the moment.
He also clarified that Ali had resigned with effect
August 3 and Persad was scheduled to leave on Friday.
Asked
to explain the rationale for his immediate departure,
Baddaloo stated, “Let’s
just say they had a Board meeting yesterday and
they accepted my resignation.”
Baddaloo
who spent 28 years at Plipdeco added, “They
told me thanks for the great service and said all
the right words, but in the same breath they asked
me if I could wrap things up as quickly as possible
and leave before that (August 1).
“I asked him (Balgobin) if he wanted me
to leave this evening and he said yes and I said
fine,” said Baddaloo, who replaced former
President Neil Rolingson when he left three years
ago. Rolingson is now the chief executive at the
National Flour Mill.
Baddaloo
admitted that after 28 years of service to the
company, “the decision is painful,
but that is how life is.
“In any case I would have been retiring
in the next year,” he said.
