In
recognition of its efforts in the area of corporate
social responsibility, Phoenix Park Gas Processor
Limited (PPGPL) has won the 2006 International
Stevie Award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility
Programme in South America. The winning submission
described the HOMES (Housing Our Most Exposed Siblings)
project launched in 2006 as Phoenix Gas’s
commitment to low income families in Trinidad and
Tobago.
PPGPL
has tied the safety performance by employees
and contractors to the company’s strategy.
The company said it makes a “gift to the
Nation” for each year that employees and
contractors complete without there being a lost
time case/incident.
To
commemorate its 13-year safety record and its
15th anniversary of production, PPGPL presented
TT$1.57M to the HOMES project, a partnership with
Habitat for Humanity TT. PPGPL is providing funding
and sweat equity to construct houses for needy
families in the company’s fence line communities,
the company said.
The project was developed to address the poor
living conditions of low income families who do
not meet the income threshold for other housing,
it was noted, and enabled them to access decent,
affordable housing.
The
housing is not free, so the initiative provides
a “hand up” and not a “hand out.”
PPGPL is a joint venture company engaged in natural
gas processing, the aggregation and marketing of
natural gas liquids. The company recently celebrated
16 years of production, during which it completed
four major expansions, won eight international
safety awards, obtained superior credit rating
from the financial sector and maintained 14 years
without a lost time incident.
The International Business Awards are the only
global, all-encompassing business awards programme
honouring great performances in business.
The awards will be presented to winners at a gala
dinner in September in Munich, Germany sponsored
by the German State of Bavaria.
Recipients were selected from more than 1,000
nominations received from companies and individuals
in more than 30 countries. Companies from all over
the world are eligible to compete and can enter
in any of more than 40 categories from Best Multinational
Company and Best New Product to Best Corporate
Social Responsibility Programme and Best Executive.
Hailed
as “the business world’s own
Oscars” by the New York Post, Stevie Awards
are conferred in four programmes. The American
Business Awards, The International Business Awards,
The Stevie Awards for Women in Business, and the
Selling Power Sales Excellence Awards.
Honouring companies of all types and sizes and
the people behind them, the Stevies recognise outstanding
performances in the workplace worldwide.
