PRIME MINISTER Patrick Manning said Trinidad and
Tobago is on the verge of a second industrial revolution
and only the integration of all its people will
ensure a brighter future for all.
In his Independence Day message, the Prime Minister
said this country has much to be proud about as
it celebrates 45 years of Indepen-dence.
Manning
said through the industrial revolution in its
energy sector, this country has become “the
major economy of the Caribbean and one of the most
promising in our hemisphere.”
He added that initiatives in housing, health,
infrastructure and the provision of social amenities
in TT were unparalleled in other small island developing
states.
Manning
said Government has quickened the pace of the
country’s development and “we
are now poised to realise a second industrial revolution, “this
time in our non-energy sector.”
The
Prime Minister said all development comes with
challenges and Government has taken many steps
in the field of education to ensure that “no
one is left behind” as the country moves
towards developed nation status by 2020.
He
identified “obstructionism, opportunism
and divisiveness in any form” as the main
obstacles that stand in the path of the nation’s
development.
“Altruism
must govern our considerations which must rise
above divided concerns.
“Let
us not forget that the pursuit of real and lasting
unity must take precedence over opportunistic,
self-serving alliances and partnerships.
“Integration
rather than segregation of our society must guide
our logic, actions and utterances.
“Care anc concern for those less privileged
must mobilise our individual and collective actions,” the
Prime Minister declared.
Manning
called on all citizens to rise above partisan
considerations and “always be guided by the
national interest” in their actions to build
the country.
