THE UNITED Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) will be hosting
a workshop in Tobago to discuss the environmental
need and possible impact of renewable energy on
our region.
The four-day workshop, from September 25 to 28
is being hosted in partnership with the German
funded contingent of the Caribbean Renewable Energy
Development Programme (CREDP/GTZ) and the University
of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine.
It will be held at the Grafton Beach resort.
Addresses are expected to be made by Dr Harold
Ramkisson, Professor in the Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science at UWI and Dr Ernst Martens,
the new German Ambassador.
Scheduled for discussion are the financial implications
of using renewable energy, the challenges governments
face in including this relatively new technology
on their national agenda and the fostering of an
enabling environment necessary for the successful
introduction of renewable energy.
Educational presentations on hydro-power, geothermal
energy, bio-energy, solar and wind energy are also
carded to take place.
