ONE
OF the most anticipated cooking events – the
Petroleum Women’s Club’s 17th Annual
Chili/Chutney Cook-Off – fires off at the
St John’s Ambulance Centre, Port-of-Spain,
from 2 pm tomorrow.
The
popular cook-off, which brings together companies
which operate mainly in the energy sector, has
been the club’s main fund-raising event to
assist a host of charities and the under- privileged
in TT. A total of 18 teams will put their culinary
skills to the test in chili and chutney dishes
for the hundreds expected to attend the event.
Last year’s champions, bpTT, which copped
several prizes, have again thrown down the gauntlet
to all challengers.
In
addition to the mouth-watering dishes for tasting,
patrons will be entertained by bpTT Renegades,
Kes the Band, St John’s Tassa Group and drumming
troupe, the Hands of Rhythm. Television personalities
Errol Fabien and Avion Crooks will perform duties
as Master of Ceremony. The Petroleum Women’s
Club, which draws its membership from female employees
working in the oil and energy sector, was founded
in 1975 in Mayaro, with the initial aim of helping
the needy in that community. As time progressed,
assistance was extended beyond Mayaro to other
social service institutions further afield.
“We
try to extend our assistance to as many institutions
as possible.
We
also assist individuals, whenever practicable.
There is a lot to do in the various communities
and we are happy to play our part in bringing some
measure of hope and comfort where it is most needed,” said
PWC’s Vice-President, Asha Ramkissoon. The
PWC Chili/Chutney Cook-Off takes the form of friendly
competition with teams competing in the following
categories:
• best

• best

• most

• most
