DESPITE several meetings between the Oilfield
Workers Trade Union (OWTU) and Petrotrin management
on a range of issues including health and safety,
salaries and pension benefits, no consensus or
agreement has been reached between the two parties.
Workers
from all seven branches of Petrotrin including
Trinmar in Point Fortin
protested earlier this
month which created panic buying in some parts
of the country. The two parties met again yesterday
at Petrotrin’s Pointe-a-Pierre branch.
OWTU
vice-president Ancil Roget said the meeting ended
with many of the workers’ concerns
unresolved. “These issues must be resolved
before November 5 and if not, we will have to do
something to ensure it is resolved,” Roget
warned. November 5 is the date of the General Election.
“Petrotrin has steadfastly refused to consider
our concerns with health, safety and the environment,” he
said, adding that the State company was adamant
on these and other issues.
Several
attempts to reach Petrotrin’s corporate
communications manager Arnold Corneal for a response
to the union’s claims, proved futile yesterday.
