UNC Political Leader Basdeo Panday has promised
to remove all fees for vehicle licensing and transfers
and instead impose a tax on gasoline.
Panday made this vow on the platform on Thursday
at a UNC Alliance political meeting in St Augustine.
"You will not have to pay licence for your
motor car," Panday said, adding that the consumer
should not have to endure these costly burdens.
Panday
said he understood it costs "a tremendous
amount of money" to transfer vehicles, which
was "nonsense... we will abolish this fee
for the transfer of motor cars".
With an outpour of support from the large crowd,
Panday chastised the PNM Government, saying they
are responsible for the traffic headaches when
the solutions are so simple.
"You have a Government that is so stupid,
you have a traffic light at every junction," said
Panday.
He said a UNC-A Government shall convert the Churchill-Roosevelt
Highway into a freeway, so there will be no stops
from Chaguaramas to Manzanilla.
Panday said all the traffic from by-ways and connecting
roads will flow over or under the freeway.
Panday reiterated that the old-age pension will
be increased to $3,000 and the requirement age
will be dropped from 65 to 60.
He also vowed to not build a single aluminium
smelter plant on the Cedros peninsula or anywhere
else in the country.
"All this can only be a dream coming true
if you do what you have to do on Monday 5th," said
Panday.
He said the UNC-A also conducts polls and they
are confident that the party will bag 19 seats
in the election.
Panday said the UNC-A needs to win some of the
marginal seats to attain victory and he pleaded
with the people to not vote for the COP, as that
would mean the PNM would win.
