The next 10 days
Govt goes to work after five days of orientation
and training which starts next week.
The session will be held at the Salybia Resort
and Conference Centre.
PM says it's necessary for team-building with new
ministers.
The
new Patrick Manning administration will officially
take up office from November 19, after five days
of orientation and training next week, says PM
Manning.
Speaking
at President’s House, Manning said
from Sunday the Government team would take up a
residential position at the Salybia Resort and
Conference Centre for a week of orientation and
training.
He said that venue was the largest which could
accommodate the entire group.
Manning said the session was necessary, especially
in circumstances where the PNM had so many new
ministers.
He said the building of a team was necessary.
“We’ll
spend five days doing that next week and Government
will take up office on
November 19.
“The first Cabinet meeting will be held
at 9 am that day, and after they’ll meet
with the permanent secretaries and then all ministers
will go to their offices for the first time.”
Manning said he had no idea when Parliament would
convene.
The PM indicated that House Speaker Barendra Sinanan
was likely to continue in that post. However, a
new Senate President is likely to succeed current
office holder Dr Linda Baboolal, he hinted.
The new Leader of Government Business would be
announced when Parliament convenes.
On
the United National Congress Alliance’s
claims to demolish the young PNM team, Manning
said his team was fresher than the UNC-A’s.
“We would eat them raw!” he
added.
He
also said since the Government’s honeymoon
period was determined by the media: “That’s
a question I’d like to ask you all.
“We’ve now moved on to the honeymoon
period; haven’t we? And it’ll last
for quite some time, alright?”
Manning
said Government was proceeding with its constitutional
reform process at a “more
leisurely pace,” due to lack of a constitutional
majority.
He
said he would move into the new official residence
at St Ann’s at year’s end.
He said
he usually spent Christmas at his Vista Bella home.
