Prime
Minister Patrick Manning says T&T
will develop “at an even faster pace” over
the next five years.
He made the statement during his victory speech
on Monday night at Balisier House, Port-of-Spain.
In
his address to the crowd of supporters sporting
red T-shirts and waving flags, posters and balisiers,
Manning said: “Today is the dawn of a new
day.”
Manning is expected to take the oath of office
at 3 pm in Woodford Square, Port-of-Spain.
Manning, who arrived at Balisier House at approximately
12.30 am, rode high on the waves of energy emanating
from supporters who packed the PNM headquarters
and surrounding streets.
Manning
thanked the young people of T&T for
voting with a vengeance and helping the party to
win 26 seats.
He
said: “The people have spoken. Almighty
God has spoken through the people of T&T. Never
before have the youth of T&T voted the way
they voted today.”
Manning said he and party members were willing
to work with whatever majority the people gave
the PNM.
Thanking party supporters Manning urged the country
to put their political differences behind and look
to a new day.
The
PM also thanked the party’s slate of
candidates who were not successful at the polls.
He
said: “Let tomorrow be a new beginning
and let us not hold it against those that shared
a different political view.”
Manning
is the only parliamentarian to have won his seat— San Fernando East— at
ten consecutive elections.
