Three persons are to be conferred
honorary doctorate
degrees on Saturday at the Graduation Pavilion
of the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
Two
engineer businessmen Malcolm Anthony Jones and
Rampersad Motilal would be given Doctor of
Science degrees for their contribution to science
and technology and in the fields of engineering
and entrepreneurship whilst centenarian Ralph Anthony
Charles de Boissierre would be given a Doctor of
Letters degree for his life’s work as a writer.
In
a statement, the UTT said Jones, a chemical engineer, “has played a leading role in every
major petrochemical development in Trinidad and
Tobago since the 1970s including the Phoenix Park
Project which he spearheaded during his 12 years
with the National Gas Company.” Presently
he is the executive chairman of Petrotrin. Motilal,
a mechanical engineer and member of the Methanol
Institute, a trade association in Washington DC
is a director of CL Financial. De Boissierre is
known for his political novels with his best known
work including Crown Jewel, Rum and Coca Cola,
Homeless in Paradise and Call of the Rainbow.
