YARA'S AMMONIA PLANTS at Point Lisas remained down
yesterday because worker absenteeism was "unusally high" for
yet another day.
The company's human resource manager, Fitzroy
Harewood, said, though, more workers had been turning
out to work after much of the workforce took sick
leave earlier in the week.
Operations at two of the company's three ammonia
plants have been at a standstill since Sunday.
"We
are not too sure if we have enough to resume
work at the plant.
We
continue to monitor the situation from shift
to shift basis," said Harewood, who was
unable to say how much the company stood lose
by the plant's
shutdown.
The company and the Oilfields Workers' Trade Union,
which represents the workers, are deadlocked in
industrial negotiations.
