Forty-two
people have been retrenched from gas company BG
Trinidad and Tobago (BG T&T) after
their positions were deemed redundant.
The company said in a statement that an internal
reorganisation had resulted in the staff reduction
which included expatriates and contractors out
of a workforce of around 450.
"Those employees affected by redundancy have
received enhanced severance packages in excess
of Government standards," BG T&T said.
"BG T&T is also providing for job outplacement
services and additional advice services for those
employees affected and their families. BG T&T
wants to ensure that all necessary support is readily
available during this period of transition."
The company said the reorganisation was done to
put greater focus on the delivery of existing projects
and internal and external performance targets.
The
new company structure was necessary to meet not
only internal growth targets but also those
of the wider T&T energy industry.
BG
T&T is the second largest gas producer
in T&T, with exploration and production operations
onshore and offshore.
The company also has equity in all four trains
at Atlantic LNG.
The BG Group has invested almost US$2 billion
in Trinidad and Tobago and has ongoing capital
projects that are set to invest more than US$1
billion in the local energy sector.
"BG Group remains firmly committed to its
business in Trinidad and Tobago and remains confident
in continuing to build upon the many successes
we have already achieved," the company added.
