plants plagued by workers deaths

Industrial plants in south Trinidad continue to
be hit by workers deaths either accidentally or
through natural causes.
State-owned
Pertrotrin reported yesterday that
Herman Soochit, a timekeeper at the Petrotrin refinery,
complained of feeling unwell around 3 p.m. on Friday.
Soochit was taken to the Augustus Long Hospital
where he died on arrival.
A release from Petrotrin stated that the matter
has been referred to the coroner for further investigations.
Last
week Sunday Finbar Adonis, 48, of Gasparillo,
a contract worker employed on the construction
of the New Catalyst plant at the Pointe-a- Pierre
refinery, Â fell 15 feet to the ground and
died. Investigations are continuing into this death.
The
Express learned that a worker employed by a contractor
at Lake Asphalt Limited at La Brea, Â died
from natural causes on the job minutes after
reporting to co-workers that he was feeling unwell.
This
incident occurred around 6.30 a.m. on Saturday
while the worker was operating a piece of equipment and
complained of feeling unwell.
He
was taken to the nearest shed, but before
medical assistance became available, he died.
