Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce
president Nigel John held discussions in which John raised the issue of alternative
sources of energy for Caricom.
According to a release from Whitehall, the CAIC
president revealed that it has entered into partnership
with the South Chamber of Industry and Commerce
to formulate a region-wide Common Private Sector
Policy on energy.
"John outlined plans to the PM for discussions
with Haiti on its work with the Caribbean Development
Bank at the upcoming Haiti Business Forum, the
continuation of its annual Regional Ministers of
Finance meeting and research into alternative sources
of energy for Caricom," the release stated.
The delegation also included chief executive officer
Carol Ayong, who indicated that in addition to
continuing its work throughout the region, there
were plans to establish national offices to be
utilised by small business owners within Caricom,
that are unable to travel to conduct their business
activities. These centres would be used as hubs
to help promote inter-regional trade, the release
said.
The CAIC also thanked the Prime Minister and the
government for continued support of its efforts
and expressed the hope that relations would continue
to be fruitful.
