The South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce
(STCIC) in collaboration with the Geological Society
of Trinidad and Tobago will host the annual Trinidad
and Tobago Petroleum Conference (TTPC) at the Hilton
Trinidad and Conference Center, February 25-26.
This conference is the premier energy event locally
and regionally and last year attracted a total
attendance of 450, including 79 international delegates.
It will also be receiving international media
coverage with representatives from Oil and Gas
Journal, Argus Media, PLATTS, the Economist, Upstream
and Bloomberg attending.
“The conference has grown and improved every
year, and we expect this trend to continue,” the
Chamber said.
The theme selected for this year’s conference
is “The Future of Energy?.”
The energy sector is the engine of growth for
the Trinidad and Tobago economy and is expected
to play this role for some time to come, the Chamber
said, noting that in 2007 the energy sector directly
contributed to 43% of the GDP.
It also stimulated construction and demand for
other services and from 2002 to 2007 the sector
accounted for 43% of government revenue, it was
noted.
“Given the obvious importance of the sector,
an informed discussion on its future that is supported
by rigorous analysis should form part of the national
discussion,” it added.
TTPC 2008 aims to explore this theme by examining
issues such as:
- Strategies for the effective management of the
energy sector in the face of depleting oil and
gas reserves
-Achieving economic diversification from an energy
platform
-The unitization of cross border reserves that
straddle the Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela
maritime boundary
-The role of renewable energy in
Trinidad and Tobago’s future
-The role of fiscal policy in increasing reserves
and the future of the petrochemical and metals
industries after natural gas reserves have been
depleted.
Speakers include senior technocrats, senior representatives
of national and international energy companies,
the financial and commercial sector and from academia.
Conrad Enill, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries,
Minister Hurlburt, Department of Energy, Nova Scotia,
David Hobbs, CERA Vice-President and Director of
Global Research, Herman Acuna, Senior International;
VP, Ryder Scott Company as well as Bill Cline,
Joint Chief Executive, Gaffney, Cline and Associates
Group, are expected to speak.
As in past TTPC’s, TTPC 2008
will also contain reports from companies in the
Upstream, Midstream
and Downstream sub-sectors as well as overviews
on the Trinidad and Tobago energy sector in the
past year and plans for future development. These
reports usually contain valuable industry intelligence
on plans for future projects.
Senior managers from NGC, Petrotrin,
NEC, Atlantic LNG, bpTT, BG T&T, Repsol EOG,
BHP Billiton, Petro Canada, Canadian Superior,
are expected to
address key energy issues.
This year’s conference will
see February 27 being used for workshops that
will focus on
specialist topics such as sub-sea technology, smart
field technology, compensation management, rotating
equipment and OSH compliance.
The TTPC is the premier event in the annual energy
sector calendar. In 2007, 450 delegates attended
with eighteen percent of delegates at TTPC 2007
being international delegates. These international
delegates were drawn from the United States, Canada,
Bolivia, the Netherlands, Japan, Russia, South
Korea and Norway. The strong and diverse international
contingent at the TTPC is reflective of the growing
internationalisation of the event.
