British
Gas (BG) executive vice president for the Americas
and global LNG, Martin Houston, has
expressed confidence in the state of T&T’s
reserves and in the country’s favourable
investment climate.
According
to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister
at White Hall, Queen’s Park
West, St Clair, the Prime Minister met with Houston
on Monday.
Houston, who is also the head of global operations
for LNG at the British Gas Group, led a BG delegation
including the head of BGTT Derek Hudson.
Houston
told the Prime Minister that a 4,000 tonne gas
platform, the largest ever fabricated in T&T,
was being built at La Brea.
The
statement said that during the meeting, “Houston
indicated to the Prime Minister that he was in
agreement with Government’s position that
the gas reserves of T&T could sustain the Government’s
developmental objectives in this area.”
BG
officials also told Manning they were pleased
with this country’s political stability and
believed this was critical to the confidence the
company was demonstrating by continuing to invest
in T&T and looking toward “expanding
its operations here and increasing production.”
The
statement said Manning reiterated to BG Government’s
position of encouraging investment in the oil and
gas sector and said “the Government continues
to be pleased with the company’s presence
here and would continue to offer its support for
future co-operation.”
