Chief
executive officer of the Neal and Massy Group
Bernard Dulal-Whiteway, says succession planning
is critical for the future and survival of his
group.
Dulal-Whiteway
made the statement yesterday at Neal and Massy’s graduate training programme
graduation ceremony at the Normandie Hotel, St
Ann’s.
“The discipline of succession planning is
one of the most critical endeavours an organisation
can undertake. In fact, it is so important to the
Neal and Massy Group that most of our senior managers
are judged on this on an annual basis —how
well they’ve done with succession planning,” he
said.
He said the group recently re-organised its operation
and many people benefitted from succession planning.
Dulal-Whiteway said succession planning is important
because it leads to new talent which eventually
leads to growth.
“Essentially cultivating and managing talent
is critical and the succession planning process
and the graduate training programme is one of Neal
and Massy’s group-wide projects geared toward
building and nurturing a culture to engage and
retain new talent. New talent brings new ideas
and energy and new culture, new talent brings change
and change is essential to growth,” he said.
He
added that Neal and Massy had a distinct culture
honed over the 80 years of the company’s
existence.
Neal
and Massy’s human resource manager
Michelle Clarke, quoted statistics to show that
the group has young employees with energy and talent.
She said about 70 per cent are under 45.
“What does this mean for the future? We
are a young organisation with lots of energy and
talent and high expectations. This puts huge responsibility
on our existing cadre of leaders,” Clarke
said
