British Gas T&T is well poised to survive the global economic downturn and is prepared to deal with the challenges that lie ahead, Derek Hudson, president of the company, has said.
"I am optimistic about 2009, we have a well-run business, we are well prepared for all the challenges and I expect to see continued success in 2009 despite the challenges,'' Hudson told members of the media last week following a ceremony hosted at the BG House, St Clair Avenue, St Clair to officially launch the 2009 BG Energy Challenge event.
He pointed out that the BG Group had actually recorded 5.5 billion pounds sterling in profit in its last financial quarter, amid the global economic downturn.
"I can tell you that BGTT contributed to about ten per cent of that,'' he said.
Hudson said he was confident that British Gas, this country's second largest gas producer, would continue to be "extremely successful'' through 2009 because it was a "well- run organisation''.
Hudson also said that the company was not planning on having any staff cuts at this point in time.
He pointed out that the company had already undergone a restructuring exercise in 2007, which was aimed at ensuring that British Gas T&T "was an efficient and optimum organisation'' and they have been seeing the results of that exercise.
Economic experts have predicted that the economic downturn would persist during this year and may not end before 2010.
The global financial crisis has also affected gas and oil prices.
