President of the second largest energy chamber in Nigeria, Prince Billy Gillis-Harry, has said he intends to use the National Entrepreneurship Development Company Ltd (NEDCO) blueprint as a guideline to steer Nigerian youths away from an ongoing civil war in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Gillis-Harry, president of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture in River State, Nigeria, made the statement during an interview with the T&T Guardian during a brief visit to San Fernando Mayor, Kenneth Ferguson, at City Hall, San Fernando on Monday. Commenting on the global economic crisis, he said that the chamber believed that it could help to create peace in the Niger Delta. He said he would meet with NEDCO officials and the Nigerian High Commissioner during his two day stay in T&T. He also said Port Harcourt would be affected by the fluctuation of oil prices.
He said that in spite of the world recession, business people were ready to do business in San Fernando and, by extension, T&T. During Ferguson's recent visit to Port Harcourt, Gillis-Harry said he would have seen several infrastructure projects, such as roads and bridges, in progress. He said that in Port Harcourt alone there were 194,000 companies. Ferguson said a Nigerian delegation will be visiting T&T from May 9–13 to foster a relationship with the business community and the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce (STCIC). He said the delegation would discuss opportunities in the energy sector in Nigeria and T&T. The mayor said a delegation from STCIC would visit Port Harcourt in June.
