?At the Annual General Meeting held on March 21, the Association of Professional Engineers of T&T (Apett) elected its female president, Hannah Wei-Muddeen of Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL Group), to lead the association in its 50th anniversary year. The theme of the year is “Renewal and Rejuvenation.”
The Executive Council 2009-2010 will steer the association in carrying out its primary mandate to safeguard the life, health and welfare of the public by promoting the highest standards of professional engineering practice. In this regard, the association will be working with key stakeholders towards the mandatory registration of engineers for practice in T&T. The council is well equipped to carry out its duties, as it comprises a diverse group of highly qualified professional engineers, practising in civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial engineering, and engineering management, all subscribing to the association's code of ethics.
In a release last week, the association expressed excitement about its upcoming events to celebrate its achievement of 50 years of growth in the society. The premier event is the Apett Banquet and Awards Ceremony scheduled for May 2 at 7.30 pm, at the Hilton Trinidad, under the distinguished patronage of President Professor George Maxwell Richards, who is an engineer by training. Charles Percy, president of the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce, is expected to share his experience in merging his engineering expertise with management acumen to overcome business challenges. Tickets cost $650 each, and all are welcome. Stimulating lectures and panel discussions with experts on topical issues are planned.
