What would you do with 20 years of statistical data on the energy sector?
Whether you are an economics student, a teacher, a journalist, business person or just someone wanting to better understand the local economy and the seemingly confusing world of energy, two decades of energy data in the palm of your hand may just be what you need.
The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Commerce, with the guidance of its Energy Committee, has introduced its First Annual Energy Statistical Digest 2009.
Vashti Guyadeen, manager of research, publication and information at the Chamber told the Business Express that the book, which will be launched in commemoration of the country’s petroleum sector’s 100th anniversary will be available at the end of December.
She said: ’It was conceptualised after a brainstorming session between the research unit and members of our Energy Committee. After working as a researcher for more than ten years, I know that much more emphasis must be placed on data collection and analysis in our country. Hence the reason why we are working on this project at this point in time.’
She said the publication which shows the last two decades in detail, documents an important era in T&T’s oil and gas development history as it shows a shift from T&T’s place as an oil based economy, towards the current gas based structure.
Besides statistics the publication which will now be on the Chamber’s to do list each year, will also feature more than ten stories from local and regional experts and stalwarts in the industry including journalist David Renwick who was awarded the Humming Bird Medal (Gold) in the 2008 for his work in promoting the T&T energy industry.
Contributors Baajnath Sirinath, Bruce Mc Kenzie, and Keith King as well as regional trade specialists- Larry Placide and Ramesh Ramdeen paint the global outlook of the sector in the magazine.
Vashti Guyadeen, who is also the editor of the publication also shares the experiences of some of the pioneers and long standing advocates of the sector including Trevor Boopsingh and Anthony Paul.
