Government plans to put two energy blocks up for
bidding in the coming months in keeping with its
plans to increase exploration activity.
They are blocks 5d and 4b.
Energy Minister Conrad Enill said yesterday Government
will be offering the blocks to interested energy
companies. They will be advertised at international
petroleum conferences in the coming months.
Among them:
- April
20 - 23: American Association of Petroleum Geologists
annual convention in San Antonio, USA;
-
April 30 - May 12: T&T Trade and Investment
Convention in 2008.
-
Petroleum Show 2008—Canada
-
June 30 - July 3: World Petroleum Congress—Madrid,
Spain.
He said in attending the event in Spain the ministry
would be targeting European and Far East companies.
Speaking
at yesterday’s post-Cabinet briefing
at White Hall, St Clair, Queen’s Park West,
Port-of-Spain, Enill added that other promotional
methods such as the Web site of the Ministry of
Energy and Energy Industries and advertisements
in international news would be used to publicise
the blocks on offer.
Enill
said T&T must position itself properly
and provide the right incentives to attract investors
in a globally competitive energy environment.
“T&T is in a global business so when
a company looks at where it has to invest, the
decisions that are being made, it is looking at
capital return and where capital has its greatest
returns...it is T&T versus Nigeria versus all
the countries that are in this business.”
