First gas from Savonette is expected by the end of 2009, Robert Riley, BPTT chairman and CEO said.
"Savonette demonstrates BPTT's long-term commitment to Trinidad and Tobago," Riley said. "This latest addition to our offshore infrastructure will allow us to maintain our position as the leading operator in the local industry and among BP's businesses worldwide."
The Savonette platform was designed and built in Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad Offshore Fabricators Unlimited (TOFCO) completed the structure, its fourth consecutive platform for BPTT, last month. The BPTT Savonette deck module was delivered on Feb. 3, while the platform jacket, also built by TOFCO, was delivered on Aug. 31, 2008.
Savonette is capable of producing one billion cubic feet a day and will be tied into BPTT's Mahogany B platform. First gas from Savonette is expected by the end of 2009. With Savonette installed, BPTT now has a total of 12 offshore platforms.
Previous BPTT clone projects include the Cannonball, Mango and Cashima structures. Savonette's deck was installed on Feb. 7 by the Heerema's semisubmersible construction vessel Thialf.
"The success of the Savonette project highlights the viability of the local platform fabrication industry," Riley said. "When we took the decision to design and build Cannonball locally, one of our objectives was to ensure that there was a high level of local content, " Riley added.
Locals accounted for about 77 percent of the Savonette project manhours in 2008. Local content accounted for about 25 percent of total spend. The project progressed without any lost-time incidents. BPTT has operated for just over 9.3 million manhours without a lost-time incident.
The BPTT Savonette Deck was fabricated as one module with a total weight of 1,060 tons and approximately 11,000 square feet of top of deck surface. This deck was comprised of four different levels: Sump, Main, Mezzanine and Upper. It was complemented with a helideck.
The general dimensions of the Savonette jacket are 316 feet in length and almost 100 feet at its highest point from the ground elevation lay down. The Savonette jacket tipped the scale at 2,043 tons. The jacket was a conventional steel fixed template type structure with three battered (angled) and one vertical face to allow for drill rig jack-up access.
TOFCO is currently executing the hook-up of the BPTT Savonette facility to achieve scheduled first gas, TOFCO Engineering Manager Ryan Sahadeo said.
"TOFCO would like to express tremendous gratitude towards BPTT for allowing us another great opportunity to complete not only the fabrication, but the off-shore hook-up of the BPTT Savonette deck. BPTT has been a major ingredient in the success story of TOFCO, and we will continue to aspire to make them proud. The BPTT Savonette deck is one of the seven facilities to be constructed and delivered by our company since its inception in 2003," Sahadeo said.
TOFCO, or Trinidad Offshore Fabricators Unlimited, is a joint venture company formed in 2003 with Chet Morrison Contractors U.S. and Weldfab Ltd. of Trinidad.
