ENERGY expert Trevor Boopsingh was cremated yesterday afternoon at the Belgroves Crematorium in Tacariguia.
He was cremated following a two-hour long funeral service at the Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Curepe, which gave hundreds of friends and family members the opportunity to say their final farewell to the 66-year-old ’visionary’.
At the service, which was attended by President George Maxwell Richards, Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Local Government Minister Hazel Manning, Boopsingh was hailed as a humble man, a people’s person and a man who had been a true patriot to Trinidad and Tobago in more ways than one.
Member of Parliament for Diego Martin West Dr Keith Rowley and Political Leader for the Congress of the People (COP) Winston Dookeran, were also present at the service.
Engineer Kermit Waldron who read the eulogy said Boopsingh ’was a true patriot who did all in his power to make sure that the energy sector moved forward’.
He added that Boopsingh, despite his illness, was still able to praise and thank God for a second chance at life following a heart attack which he suffered some time ago which required him having to undergo triple by-pass surgery.
Boopsingh died on Tuesday night after battling cancer for several months.
He had been involved in the local energy sector for several decades. He was the chairman of the Association of Caribbean Energy Specialists and so too the Eastern Caribbean Gas Pipeline Company.
